    1. The teaching has not been great, because of many different factors, and I think this is a major part of the reason I've been bummed out for a while. Communication is very difficult, in one part with my students and not being able to understand them and connect with them, but also with my employers and not really having any grasp of what is expected of me. I now realize not much at all is expected of me, and although that may seem easy it's actually very unsatisfying. I wish I had some actual teaching skills, but I'm trying nonetheless and staying positive (mostly). 30 hours a week is the most I'll work. And I will get pics of the kids one of these days, they are camera shy!

    2. Keep at it girl! I've taught quite a bit and you'll get more and more comfortable. It is definitly draining. Playing games and having fun is the most important thing at that age. Having lots of stuff planned and seeing how it goes. Activities that have them learning about their senses is always really fun and could help you connect (like blindfolding and smelling stuff, putting water on your nostrils make you smell better! There's probably stuff on the internet.)
Love you! Thanks for the picture's they are super cute!

  2. Are you married? What is your blood type? Why are you single? Haha why do they want to know your blood type??? Are there any rivers or streams near by? City parks, etc? What do you think the average height is there? aka...how much taller are you than everyone else? :) Many other Americans? How do you ask for a beer in korean? (well, I probably wouldn't be able to read it anyway....) Miss you!!! (This is Jamie Pfadt)

    1. Hey Jamie!
The blood type question is a kind of superstition/personality type of thing- sort of like your astrologically sign. Funny! There is a river through the main city I live near and a nice path that follows it on either side. There are pavilions and benches in the shade and underneath bridges, and there is exercise equipment every so often. Koreans take their health very seriously. There are always some sort of walking paths/parks nearby, all stocked with outdoor exercise machines of some sort. Also, I finally discovered that I have descent mountain trails within walking distance from my apartment, I have lots of exploring ahead of me.
I think the average height is about 5'5-5'6 for woman and maybe 5'7-5'8 for men. I think the younger generations are getting bigger and taller. I think Koreans are on the larger side in general compared to other Asians, but still 5'5 is not that tall, and their frames in general are pretty petite. I look at clothes hanging on racks in shops and I think its kids clothes. I haven't attempted any clothes shopping yet but it doesn't look promising. And forget about shoes!!!
There's a fairly strong network of native English speakers (not only Americans) in the city and I am starting to meet some. And the romanized version of how you ask for a beer is "Maekju chuy-say-yo" Haha!

  6. Hi there. I chanced upon one of your pictures when I was searching around for images of my school. Do you still live in Hwasun? I've got a little blog myself about Korea, though I do have to update it soon...
